The 2D maps offer a wealth of themes and tailor-made tools. These interactive functions include querying values and geographical elements in the map, hooking up a second map, navigation with a reference map and free zooming, map animation, an index with a geographical search function, a comparison of individual values, altering classification and colouring, multimedia information on the theme of the map, a comprehensive base map, legends with special effects, saving self-designed maps (MyMap) as well as printing and exporting maps.
3D maps in the form of panoramic views or block diagrams are already attractive representations in themselves. In the “Atlas of Switzerland 2.0”, these can be overlaid with a satellite map, forest and other map layers. Fog and haze can also be faded in to create natural-looking scenery. Various options are available for navigation in 3D maps, for instance, a climber. The “Atlas of Switzerland 2.0” also offers the possibility of querying information about terrain and themes (temperature, geology etc.) and creating profiles. For more in-depth analyses, the terrain can be coloured, for instance, according to slope, aspect, altitude or visibility. As all these elements can be freely combined, countless 3D maps can be created!
