3D mode

Since the first version of a digital interactive ATLAS OF SWITZERLAND the 3D displays – block diagrams and panoramas – have been real eye-catchers. In this national Atlas, however, the 3rd dimension is mainly used to make themes even more understandable.

With this in mind, the ATLAS OF SWITZERLAND 3 has introduced a new 3D mode – the prism map – which uses the 3rd dimension for a thematic variable and, by doing so, provides for the combination of any two themes in one statistical overview. This spatial linking of themes is visually directly accessible for non-experts and experts alike when, for example, population density (amount) and ozone spread (colour) are combined.

3D display of themes related to terrain closely following maps; terrain analyses (e.g. slope)

Prism map

Simultaneous combination of 2 themes in one 3D map

Panorama

Realistic 3D display of themes related to terrain; terrain analyses

Panorama with sky

Realistic simulation of day/night situations; data available on around 120000 celestial bodies
